Smart-lock ownership after a home sale: accounts, codes and physical keys

Review account ownership, authorized users, backup keys and product transfer instructions when taking over a home's electronic lock.
Smart-lock ownership handover: Account, Confirm product and owner; Digital, Review authorized users and codes; Physical, Reconcile keys and access

Smart-lock ownership involves more than receiving a code. Follow the exact product's transfer instructions and confirm who controls its account, authorized users and physical backup keys. Changing one entry code does not necessarily transfer every layer of access.

Identify the product and account owner

Obtain the model information and relevant documentation. Ask the previous responsible contact about the authorized transfer process. Do not simply reuse someone else's administrator credentials or assume every lock has the same reset procedure.

Keep account details and codes private. Confirm which user-level actions the product supports and which questions require its support channel or a qualified assessment.

Review physical access too

Reconcile keys received and any uncertainty about previous copies. Electronic administration and the mechanical cylinder are separate concerns. Record the intended permanent users and backup-entry arrangement.

After the authorized transfer or hardware work, verify normal operation and retain the instructions. Do not mark the handover complete while an ownership or access question remains unresolved.

Review residential locksmith services and contact 247 Locksmith Surrey if the existing hardware or physical-key arrangement needs assessment.
